Kirk's strange thunks and wafflin'..

Broadband prayer. :: Sun 8th Feb; 2009 12:45

I was paying attention in church this morning, honest. But when she was talking about how Isaiah used various images for God, which we all could relate to, including shepherd, my mind started to wander. Because shepherd isn't exactly a common job any more - and I rather suspect that for most kids, a shepherd is a guy in a tea towel with a walking stick, who appears at Christmas. One of the girls I work with at GB (aged 6) was convinced that Jesus' dad worked in a garage... ...he was a car painter.
That being said, what modern imagery can we use to explain things to the children without becoming cheesy? "Jesus is the telephone repairman on the switchboard of my life", anyone? So then I got on to thinking about telephones, and internets, and so on, and came up with this:
Prayer is like the opposite of broadband. We have unlimited upload bandwidth, but fail to use it. And we put artificial restrictions on the downloads.. .. ..
